Rourkela Steel Plant, part of SAIL, achieved historic highs in 2023, producing exceptional quantities of Hot Metal, Crude Steel, and Saleable Steel, showcasing remarkable growth in sales and mill certifications.


Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP), a key unit of SAIL, closed 2023 with astounding achievements, marking its best performance in several production categories for any calendar year. The plant exhibited exceptional output, producing 4.402 million metric tons of Hot Metal, 4.096 million metric tons of Crude Steel, and 4.022 million metric tons of Saleable Steel, demonstrating its robust performance.

Notably, Saleable Steel production witnessed a significant 7% surge compared to the previous year, with Hot Strip Mill-2 contributing substantially by producing 2.302 million metric fons of HR Coils, marking a remarkable 72% growth. The mill's recent CE certification paved the way for its entry into the European Market, further enhancing its global standing.

Furthermore, RSP's exceptional performance extended into the fiscal year 2023-24, recording its highest-ever production figures in critical metrics for the initial three quarters. Notably, achievements reached 3.317 million metric tons of Hot Metal, 3.082 million metric tons of Crude Steel, and 3.056 million metric tons of Saleable Steel, marking historic highs.

In a New Year address to the collective, Mr. Atanu Bhowmick, Director In-Charge of RSP, underscored the importance of sustaining this momentum. He urged the team to strive for new milestones, emphasizing safety, cost-efficiency, quality, and technological advancements.

The plant's record-breaking figures in Hot Metal, Crude Steel, and Saleable Steel production, along with mill certifications, underscore its commitment to excellence.
