German steel maker Salzgitter AG has presented its new strategy "Salzgitter AG 2030". The aim is to establish the group as an independent market leader for circular economy solutions with innovative products and processes. This can only succeed with strong partners and networks. Therefore, closed value streams and value chains are established in cooperation with customers and suppliers. Salzgitter AG is committed to binding, science-based CO2 reduction targets and joins the Science Based Targets Initiative. In a first step, Salzgitter has defined the following goals that it wants to achieve by 2030: 1. Reduction of Scope 1 and 2 CO2 emissions by more than 50% compared to 2018 - Electricity is purchased exclusively from renewable sources and where it makes sense also from our own production, in order to make the continued energy-intensive manufacture of the products as climate-neutral as possible. 2. Expansion of scrap recycling activities by more than 50% to over 3 million tonnes per year. A key element of the new strategy is the significantly accelerated decarbonization as part of SALCOS. The Salzgitter Group is thus underlining its role as a frontrunner in low-CO2 steel production: the first blast furnace is to be replaced by direct reduction plants and electric furnaces as early as 2025. In 2026, the production of more than 1 million tons of green steel is planned via this route. As early as 2033 and thus 12 years earlier than originally announced, the integrated iron and steel works should be fully geared to the new world. The strategic realignment is accompanied and visualized by a group-wide brand relaunch. In the course of this, the corporate design was revised and Salzgitter AG received a further developed logo as the most visible component of this comprehensive process.
