Azpeitia, Gipuzkoa, Spain headquartered leading technology supplier SARRALLE has finished the manufacturing of the Reheating Furnace Prototype for the evaluation of hydrogen combustion technologies. This is a new step for H-ACERO project that SARRALLE is leading and now the prototype is ready for testing in TECNALIA facilities. The reheating furnace prototype allows the installation of various types or burners and enables the placement of various refractories. The burners include air-fired burner technologies, and oxy-combustion technologies, using both natural gas and hydrogen, or mixtures of both gases, as fuel. The burners to be evaluated will allow temperatures of 1200 degree Celsius to be reached in the combustion chamber. The different type of refractories will allow their evaluation under different combustion atmospheres, as well as the placement of steel samples inside the combustion chamber for their evaluation. The equipment includes instrumentation for monitoring refractory temperatures at different points in the furnace, as well as the steel samples introduced into the combustion chamber. In addition, the equipment will have a vision camera that allows visualizing the development of the flame inside the chamber. It also allows the monitoring of the temperature and composition of the gases.H-ACERO project is an example of collaboration between different companies and entities to develop the next generation reheating furnaces for the steel industry based on decarbonization and energy efficiency technologies.
