Leading Russian steel maker Severstal has announcesd the approval of a new health and safety strategy. The strategy is based on a detailed analysis of the current situation and the health and safety management system and reflects the company's focus on caring for the safety and health of its employees and employees of contractors, encouraging a proactive approach on their part in these issues. In accordance with the new strategy, Severstal's main public document in this area has been substantially revised - the Occupational Health and Safety Policy.Key elements of the new strategy to which the company will focus its efforts include: Risk management, with a focus on deadly risks, Contractor safety, Deviation management, Employee skills development and changes in the health and safety management organization. Within each region, an action plan has been developed for the health and safety management system to reach the target level: 3 on the Bradley scale, against the current 1.83.Severstal has started implementing the changes reflected in the strategy since the beginning of 2021. In particular, the company updated the incident management system, improved the registration of injuries to its own personnel and employees of contractors, ensured the search for the root causes of incidents and high-quality lessons learned. These changes have already led to a noticeable decrease in severe injuries by almost 20% in relation to 2020.Earlier, the Board of Directors of PJSC Severstal approved the medium-term goals of the company in the field of occupational health and safety: by 2025, reduce the level of occupational injuries by 50% from the 2017 level and eliminate fatal injuries among the company's employees, as well as ensure that all enterprises of the company to assess compliance with the international standard ISO 45001.
