PJSC Severstal brought blast furnace No 3, DP-3, to hot tests at the Cherepovets Metallurgical Plant site. DP-3 is capable of producing over three million tons of pig iron per year. The unit is the second in terms of iron production at CherMK after Severyanka, the largest blast furnace in Europe. DP-3 is a unique furnace for domestic metallurgy. The profile of the new blast furnace allows the use of up to 80% of iron ore pellets in the metal charge. The most up-to-date systems for controlling the charge level and temperatures at the top of the furnace guarantee flexibility in adjusting the technological modes of blast furnace smelting. Thus, it is possible to reduce the consumption of coke when smelting pig iron by controlling the process.
The extra strong metal of the furnace shell, in combination with refractory materials and new generation cooling systems, gives an increase in the operating campaign of the furnace before overhaul to from 10-20 to 25 years. The design of shaftless air heaters allows reducing coke consumption by increasing the blast temperature. To increase productivity and also reduce fuel consumption, the modern bell-less charging device, which suppresses emissions and is equipped with new systems to monitor and control the furnace, will help.
Most of the technological operations at BF-3 are automated. At the same time, a significant number of IT developments are owned by Severstal employees.
The key environmental object of DP-3 is the aspiration system, which is necessary to clean the air and workplaces from dust. The residual dust content of the air after the bag filter is no more than 8 mg per cubic meter, which corresponds to the level of the world's cleanest metallurgical enterprises in the world. Blast furnace gas cleaning efficiency is 99.99%. Air heaters DP-3 provide a lower CO content. Dust-laden air is sampled along the entire chain - from the places of transportation, transfer of charge and fuel before feeding to the blast furnace, to the foundry yard with closed tapholes for the release of cast iron and places of its overflow. The specific emission from BF-3 is 53% lower than the total specific emission of blast furnaces No. 1 and 2.
The construction of the blast furnace # 3 complex began in October 2018. The Domnaremont Center (part of Severstal) has become the general contractor for the construction of the central unit facilities. The bunker trestle, charge feeding and foundry yards were made by UralDomnoRemont LLC Yekaterinburg. The power and power supply facilities will be built by SK USP LLC Moscow. The construction of the central exhaust and central inflow stations, as well as their infrastructure, was carried out by OJSC SMK Chermetekologia Cherepovets. The general designer was Severstal Project LLC.
