Russian steelmaker PAO Severstal has awarded Danieli with an order for the supply of a new rolling mill for special steels to be installed in Cerepovec. The new plant will produce 1 million tonnes per year of 5.5 to 32 mm dia wire rod and coiled bars for the engineering and automotive industries and 8 to 16-mm-dia quenched rebar for construction purposes. Danieli will provide all the technological equipment, automation and advisory services. A Danieli Centro Combustion walking beam reheating furnace will bring to rolling temperature 12 meter long, 150mm square billets, at a pace of 170 tonnes per hour. A single strand high speed roughing mill made of horizontal and vertical housing less stands will feed two independent wire rod lines and a garret coiler to produce the bigger diameters.
The intermediate mill is composed by horizontal housing less stands while the finishing stand group consists of cantilever stands and two separate fast-finishing blocks, six plus four passes, in order to achieve better macrostructure. Two oil films bearing laying heads will lay wraps on a 100 meter cooling conveyor designed for sorbitezed process. All coils will be processed along a Sundbirsta vertical trestle system.
The entire mill will be powered by Danieli Automation electrical motors and drives, and controlled by L1, L2 and Q3 technologies.
Mill start up is planned within end of 2022.
