Brazilian steelmaker Companhia Siderurgica Nacional’s German subsidiary Stahlwerk Thuringen is upgrading a medium section mill at its plant in Unterwellenborn in Thuringia in Germany and had placed an order with SMS group for the modernization of the third mill stand of the tandem group at its 1 million tonnes per year medium section mill to increase productivity and automation of the mill. The cutting machine will also be replaced.The works will be carried out during a two-week shutdown in 2023In 2019, the mill was equipped with a new universal compact cartridge stand by SMS to expand product range of sections within previous stages of the upgrade project.Stahlwerk Thuringen is equipped with a 1.1 million tonnes per year EAF-based melt shop and the product range includes beams and channels.
