US steel maker Steel Dynamics Inc expects to commission hot-end operations of its green-field plant in Sinton in Texas by the end of February 2022 after experiencing numerous challenges related to supply chain disruptions and COVID impacts in commissioning of a 3 million tons meltshop with an CSP unit and an 8-stand hot strip unit from the end of 2021. SDI CEO Mr Mark Miliett in an investor call said “Ahead of starting up melting and casting operations and thus completing the project, the team has done a great job with commissioning and operating other aspects of the steel mill, including the rolling mill and two value-added finishing lines.” SDI is also ramping up processing activities at a picking line, a 500,000 ton galvanizing line and a 250,000 ton pre painting fine, commissioned last autumn. Based on the current forecast, SDI expects shipments to be around 2 million tons in 2022
