Punjab News Express has reported that the work on setting up of scrap based steel plant by Tata Steel at a cost of INR 2600 crore kicked off on 24 January 2023 in Ludhiana I Punjab. Tata Steel has signed a Memorandum of Understanding on 26 August 2022 with the Government of Punjab for setting up a 750,000 tonnes long products steel plant with a scrap-based electric arc furnace at Kadiana Khurd in Hitech Valley in Ludhiana. The plant will be spread over 115 acres of land adjacent to the state-of-the art Industrial Park developed by Punjab Small Industries & Export Corporation. The EAF-based steel plant would produce construction grade steel rebar under the Company’s flagship retail brand Tata Tiscon, which would enable Tata Steel to further augment its market presence in the construction segment. In August 2021, Tata Steel commissioned its first Steel Recycling Plant of 500,000 tonnes per annum capacity at Rohtak in Haryana.
