Vallourec, a pioneering company in the oil and gas industry, has reached a significant milestone with the successful deployment of its revolutionary Pre-Installed Cable Protectors (PICP) in a production well located in the North Sea. This groundbreaking achievement demonstrates Vallourec's commitment to enhancing safety and efficiency in well operations.Following a successful trial of a few units last year, Vallourec received a request from an international oil and gas operator for 200 PICP units to be deployed in a full string. In February 2023, 139 PICP units were successfully Run in Hole (RIH), marking a major step forward in the adoption of this innovative technology. The primary motivation for the operator to utilize PICP was to improve safety measures. Unlike traditional cable protectors, which require three or four personnel in the 'red zone' around the rotary table, PICP only necessitates the presence of one person. This reduction in required personnel significantly enhances safety. Moreover, PICP reduces rig time during RIH and simplifies logistics compared to standard cable protectors. The positive feedback from the oil and gas operator and service company representatives further emphasizes the benefits of PICP. With the ability to hold the full string weight using side door elevators and eliminating the need for manual counting of cable protectors, PICP streamlines operations and reduces clutter. It also minimizes dropped object potential and personnel exposure, ensuring a safer work environment. The successful deployment of PICP has not only bolstered safety but also opened new opportunities for Vallourec. The company received additional orders from the operator and has secured other OCTG work and potential VFS work for future completion thread inspection. This accomplishment validates the robustness of Vallourec's production route and showcases their commitment to continuous improvement.
