Diversified resources firm Vedanta board has approved an expansion project of its ESL Steel plant. Vedanta will invest USD 348 million for the expansion project of its 1.5 million tonnes per year steel plant in Bokaro in Jharkhand to double its capacity to 3 million tonnes per year. The expansion will include an additional 1,050 cubic meter blast furnace, 0.5 million tonnes per year coke ovens, a 1.8 million tonnes per year pellet plant and an 800 tonnes per day oxygen plant. The expansion, along with the debottlenecking of blast furnace No 3, sinter plants and a new ladle-refining furnace will take the steel plant's capacity to 3 million tonne per yearVedanta will also add a new 0.18 million tonnes per year ductile iron pipe plant, which will maximise value-added processing.Vedanta's total steel production stood at 1.19 million tonne in the financial year 2021.
