Taiwan's Fair Trade Commission has given its approval to Walsin Lihwa's acquisition of Special Melted Products through its subsidiary, Cogne Acciai Speciali, as it has determined that there are no concerns about significant restrictions of competition. The Commission stated that SMP primarily operates in the European and American markets and did not make any shipments to Taiwan in 2022 nor has plans to do so in the future. The acquisition will not affect Walsin Lihwa's existing business of stainless steel billet and straight bar in Taiwan, as it will continue to face competition from both domestic and foreign industries.Furthermore, Walsin Lihwa does not produce or sell nickel alloy billet and straight bar, which are the products of CAS and SMP. Thus, the combination of the companies will not impact Taiwan's market structure of stainless steel billet/straight bar and nickel alloy billet/straight rod, and it should not result in any restraints of competition in these markets.
